You built the flow. Comment word, DM sent, link delivered. It works, technically but nobody’s converting. So if your ManyChat automation is not converting, what’s actually wrong?
Almost always, it’s not the automation. It’s what happens after the automation ends.
The automation isn’t the funnel
ManyChat gets someone from a comment to a link in their DMs. That’s it’s whole job. What happens after they click that link, whether it’s a sales page, an opt-in, or a booking calendar, is where the actual conversion happens or doesn’t.
I see this constantly. The automation is beautifully built, tagged correctly, firing at the right time, and it dumps someone onto a generic link or a page that was never designed to convert cold traffic that just landed from a comment. The automation isn’t broken. What it’s connected to is.
Where the drop-off actually happens
Someone comments, gets excited, clicks the link within seconds, while the impulse is fresh. If that link takes them somewhere slow to load, confusing to navigate, or asking for more commitment than they’re ready for at that exact moment, you lose them right there. Because the destination wasn’t built for someone arriving mid-impulse.
Check what your link actually leads to, and ask honestly whether it matches the energy of someone who just commented on a Reel.
The follow-up nobody builds
Most people build the initial DM sequence and stop there. If someone doesn’t click, or clicks and doesn’t buy, there’s often no follow-up at all. That’s a huge amount of interest just evaporating because nothing catches it.
A simple no-click reminder, or a light nurture sequence for people who clicked but didn’t convert, recovers a meaningful chunk of people who were interested but not ready in that exact moment.
It doesn’t have to be automated either. Tag the people who engaged but didn’t convert, and follow up with them yourself. A short, personal message to someone who’s already shown real interest often converts better than another automated touchpoint ever could, and it costs you nothing but a few minutes. I have a system set up so every one who engaged with any of my Manychat automations gets put into an Airtable, their progresses tracked and so when I follow up I know exactly where they are and what they need.
What to check first
- Where does your link actually send people, and does that page match what someone expects right after commenting?
- Is there a reminder for people who don’t click within a set window?
- Is there any follow-up at all for people who click but don’t convert?
- Are you tagging people so you can actually see where in this journey they drop off, rather than guessing?
Every action has a consequence. If the automation ends and nothing catches the person who didn’t convert, that’s not a small gap. That’s most of your funnel.
Want this fixed for you?
If you want a quick, expert eye on where your flow is actually losing people, book a Shelly, Can You Just…? Hour (£247). We’ll go through your automation together and pinpoint the leak.
If you already know it needs proper tagging and a follow-up sequence built to catch the people who don’t convert first time, the ManyChat + Airtable Integration Build (£497) does exactly that. Email me at shelly@shellyshulman.com and we can talk about your needs,
