You built the funnel and you put it out there but the leads and the sales didn’t flood in the way you expected. You’ve had a few, enough to know it isn’t doing nothing, but not enough to feel like it’s actually working. So you’re left asking: is my funnel working?

The closest thing to an answer is usually a feeling. “It feels a bit quiet.” “I think conversions are down.” “Something’s off, but I can’t say what.”

But none of those are concrete answers. They are just guesses,

The number that actually tells you

A funnel is a sequence of steps, and each step has a conversion rate. Traffic to opt-in. Opt-in to Micro Offer. Nurture sequence to main offer. If you can’t tell me the percentage moving from one step to the next, you don’t actually know if your funnel is working. You know how it feels, which is a different thing entirely.

Pull these numbers. If 100 people land on your opt-in page and 3 sign up, that’s a sign. If 100 people opt in and 50 unsubscribe before the end of the nurture sequence, that’s a sign.

Where funnels leak

Most funnels leak quietly, one step at a time: a page that loads slowly, an email that lands in spam, a checkout button that’s one click too many away. Nothing looks broken from the outside. It just underperforms steadily, in a way that’s easy to miss unless you’re actually looking at the numbers step by step.

The fix isn’t rebuilding the whole thing. It’s finding the specific step, or steps, where people drop off, and fixing them.

What “working” actually means

A funnel doesn’t need to convert at some mythical industry-average percentage to be working. It needs to convert consistently enough, at each step, that you can predict roughly what will happen if you send more traffic to it.

If you can’t predict that, you don’t have a working funnel. You have a page that sometimes makes sales.

How to check yours

  • Map every step from first click to purchase, and write down the actual conversion rate at each one.
  • Compare each step against a rough benchmark for that type of step, not against the whole funnel at once.
  • Find the single weakest step. Fix that before touching anything else.
  • Recheck the numbers after the fix. Don’t move on until you’ve confirmed it actually changed something.

Ready to actually know?

If you want a fast, honest read on where your funnel is leaking right now, book a Funnel Audit (£97). You’ll get a full review and a clear list of exactly what to fix, no build required.

If you already know it needs more than a tweak and you’re ready to build it properly, Connected is where that happens. It’s a 10-week done-with-you programme where we build and fix your funnel together, step by step.
