You know what most business owners do when they say they want to grow?

They grab a notebook.
They write down their big shiny goals. “I want to hit 10k months, grow my audience, get more clients” and for a brief moment, they feel unstoppable.

Then they close the notebook… and nothing changes.

It’s like joining a gym and never going.
You’ve bought the membership. You’ve got the trainers. You’ve told everyone you’re getting fit.
But you’re still sat on the sofa wondering why nothing’s different.

And six months later, your business looks exactly the same.

Writing goals doesn’t grow your business. Doing something about them does.

I’m all for setting big goals, I love a vision board moment, but what I really love is traction.
Momentum. Movement.

Because success isn’t in the writing. It’s in the doing.

The mistake most people make

They think planning is progress.
They think writing a list of goals means they’re “manifesting” them.
But without a plan and consistent action, you’ve just written a pretty sentence in a notebook.

Here’s how I actually do it

Every week, I set one or two tangible, trackable goals — and then I ask myself one question:
“How am I going to make that happen?”

For example, this week my goal is 30 new YouTube subscribers.

Not 3,000. Not “go viral.”
Just 30. Manageable, realistic, and specific.

Then I write down how I’ll make it happen:

  • Upload a new YouTube video.
  • Create social media posts that point people to my channel.
  • Ask people to subscribe — because sometimes they just need the reminder.

And then… I do the thing.

No endless tweaking, no overthinking, no waiting for the perfect moment.

Planning is the prep.
Progress happens when you act on it.

The real growth mindset

I might not hit 30 subscribers this week.
Maybe I’ll get 10.
But I’ll go again next week.
And the week after that.

Because that’s how momentum builds.
That’s how confidence builds.
And that’s how real business growth happens. One action, one week, one goal at a time.

The people who “blow up” didn’t just write their goals.
They worked them.

So here’s your challenge

Go find your goal list.
Choose one thing on it.
And ask: “What’s my plan to make this happen this week?”

Because writing it down won’t change your business.
Executing it will.
